The mechanical ventilator shall:
1- Operate with dual-limb closed system breathing circuits
2- Provide Volume Controlled Ventilation (VCV) and/or Pressure Controlled Ventilation (PCV)
3- With VCV, the volume range should be at least: 50-1000 mL and the ventilator should display the value of the resulting peak airway pressure in cmH2O.
4- With PCV, the inspiratory pressure range should be at least: 5-60 cmH2O and the ventilator should display the resulting amount of delivered or exhaled tidal volumes.
5- Allow a patient’s spontaneous breathing attempt to trigger delivery of a ventilator breath whether in VCV or PCV (i.e., Assist/Control mode)
6- Should provide an adjustable fraction of inspired oxygen range (FiO2) from 21%-100% with increments not exceeding 5%
7- Provide adjustable positive end expiratory pressure (PEEP) in the range of at least 5-25 cmH2O
8- Provide adjustable respiratory rate (RR) in the range of at least 2-60 breaths/min
9- Provide adjustable inspiratory time in the range of 0.5sec-4sec or an adjustable inspiratory time to expiratory time ratio (i.e, I:E ratio) of 1:4 to 2:1.
10- Allow adjustable alarm for peak inspiratory pressure
11- Provide and alarm for patient’s disconnection from the ventilator
1- Ventilate spontaneously breathing patients with pressure support ventilation (PSV). PSV range should be at least from 5-20 cmH2O
